What to expect – Indian Head Massage

What happens during a treatment

A complete Indian head massage will probably take between 25 and 45 minutes and you will remain seated.

Before your treatments starts remove any hair bands, clips or slides as well as earring and necklaces. You should wear loose-fitting clothing, so that you don’t feel restricted or uncomfortable. You may want to wear a top that can easily give therapist access to your shoulders and upper back area when massaging these areas or you can have these areas massaged over your clothing, whichever you prefer.

The treatment commences with a massage to your upper back, shoulders and neck as these are areas where people carry a lot of stress and tension. Your therapist will then massage your scalp. As your scalp has natural oils, your therapist will not be adding additional oil.

The treatment finishes with a relaxing combination of facial and ear reflexologies using oils that are organic and suited to these areas.

Precautions

As with any treatment it is important to tell your therapist in advance if you:

  • are, or think you might be, pregnant
  • have any medical conditions or are receiving any treatment or medication
  • have recently had an injury or operation
  • are allergic to anything, particularly skin allergies
  • have any broken skin or sores on your scalp
